Agrivoltaic Project Planning

How Can Agrivoltaic Mounting Systems Preserve Farm Access?

For agrivoltaic mounting farm access, the layout must accommodate agricultural work as well as photovoltaic generation. Start by defining the farm activity—such as crop production or grazing—and the equipment that must move through the site. Record machine width and height, turning areas, headlands, planting and harvest routes, and regular maintenance access before selecting a mounting layout.

These operating needs inform project decisions such as support locations, clear height, row spacing, foundations and cable routes. Crop type, growing season, soil and water conditions also affect the site plan. There is no universal clearance or spacing that works for every farm. IEA PVPS guidance published in August 2026 emphasizes that application-specific environmental conditions and functional requirements affect PV system design and reliability; conventional ground-mount assumptions should not be transferred to agrivoltaics without review. Integrated assessment and long-term monitoring are important because the project must consider both PV performance and agricultural activity.

For a mounting-hardware inquiry, share a site plan, equipment dimensions, agricultural schedule, module and rail interfaces, site conditions, and required service routes. Ask for drawings that show proposed mounting geometry, clearances, connection details, materials and splice positions. A qualified project engineer should verify structural loads, foundations and applicable local requirements. Confirm farm machinery routes against the approved layout before procurement; a component supplier’s product description alone cannot confirm site suitability.
